Progress Sneak Peek - February 21

Hello everyone and welcome to a new sneak peek of Lucky Paradox <3

Lately I have decided to do these progress report posts, as some of you have already noticed, once every two weeks. I think it's a more efficient way of reporting progress instead of doing it on a weekly basis, I think it doesn’t count as spam that way xD

Do you agree with this, or should I go back to the weekly format?

It's a bit difficult to give a weekly report on the progress of the game writing, because with no images to show and wanting to avoid some spoilers, I must show everything in a general way so as not to ruin the surprises hahaha

During these weeks I've been working on the script of the new update, this time it has been a monumental work, I think more than any story content so far, especially considering the content I still must add to the Argleton museum.

During the first months of development of Lucky Paradox (Lot of time ago), I started writing the story in broad strokes with a huge number of details, dates, characters and important events that were happening during the story, almost as if it was a map or the skeleton of what would be everything later. I did not like the idea of creating the story as the development progressed, but I wanted to have surprises and interesting plot twists prepared in advance throughout the development.

However, I have been making a lot of changes as the development of Lucky Paradox progressed, as I wanted to give much more focus on the characters and their interactions, and less on what was the world building and background, so far in the game, you have only seen a small tip of the iceberg of what the real story of Argleton is. There are many things that so far may seem like filler or that do not make much sense, and it is a feeling that goes along with the lack of main story I'm talking about. In addition to the "encyclopedia" style format in which the game is developed and written, where you must connect many dots to discover details and discover the background himself.

On the other hand, I wanted the Museum and the story of Liz and Sarah (which will be included in a future version), would serve to discover all that background or at least most of them,  as optional content.

So, to remember what I had written, I decided to gather and re-read all those notebooks with notes and notes that I had made at the beginning of the development and... Oh Boy... I didn't remember it was so much... I don't know what my past self was thinking about xD

I've been for several days sorting through all that information, establishing chronology of all the events that were happening or remembering a lot of details that I had overlooked, as it hadn't been necessary until now. However, I've had to do a lot of this by hand, pencil and paper like in the old days hahaha

Hard work, but fun all the same time

And that added to a bit of bad luck during these weeks...

This last week I suffered some problems on the computer I work on, every time I tried to save a document, I got an error saying "Error writing to disk". After a lot of research, thinking that it was a write protection issue, I realized that my hard disk had simply reached the end of its useful life.

If I must be honest, it's not something that worries me, since a few months ago when I suffered a data corruption, I backed up everything necessary for the development of the game. The code is safe in github and everything else in the cloud, so now I must wait for a new hard drive to arrive and copy all that again to resume development. Since right now, I can only work on the game script and code on my old laptop.

I hope to have some preview images soon to show some new features of the museum I've been working on, although due to technical problems it hasn't been possible to finish all the final design for this new feature. So for now it's mostly a sketch of what it will be in the end, I still have to fix and finish designing more things.

My intention is to add a new mechanic of discovering and research objects, collecting new items through Liz's side story or by finding things scattered around the world, and being able to know more details based on our level of knowledge.

Adding this as a secondary activity to do during the mornings (which is possibly the instant of time with the least amount of things to do in the game right now). I think it will be a great addition to show all that background that still remains to be discovered and being optional, it is not mandatory so if you are not so interested in the background of the game, you can simply continue playing the content of the characters that you like the most, as always.

And I think that's it for the last few weeks.

Before I say goodbye, I would like to know:

Do you like better the weekly report format, or continue in this new format of reports every two weeks?

It would be very helpful if you give me your personal opinion, because, though the weekly format requires more time, I am willing to go back to the previous format if the majority agrees.

As always, I send you a big hug from afar and wish you a beautiful and fruitful week.

And see you soon with more news <3

I don't care about the amount of time between updates as long as it's fairly regular. The updates are nice to have and all, but most of the time they just serve as a reminder to people that the game isn't abandoned. Once a month would be more than enough to let people know that you are still working on it, and to check back later for updates.

I feel like updates posts every time there is something to give updates about. Like a new update is a week from release. Or if you feel that you haven't given an update in a while and want to let us know that you are still working on this game. It would give you more time to work and not worry about needing to get something substantial every two weeks. And it would give us more to look forward to in these posts.

every two weeks is more than enough. Monthly would even be fine. Whatever fits your needs from a deadline/development cycle purposes

(+1)

Two weeks is fine - and the story elements really have me intrigued!

(+1)

Yeah, every two weeks is fine, don't worry. One thing you might be able to do to show progress without spoiling stuff is just saying I rendered x images, y scenes, and added z lines of text this week/fortnight (yes, this is what a two-week time period is called lol)

(+1)

I think every two weeks is better, both for your sake but also we can probably get more content in one update and I like that haha

(+2)

Every two weeks is fine with me. Sorry about your HD problems. Be well.

(+2)

Fortnightly is a good way. Less stress on you, for one thing.

Every other week works fine. Great game btw

i dont really mind when the sneak peaks are, as long as we get them because i really enjoy reading about what you've got planned and the stuff thats been happening with you, but id say the new 2 week format if its better for you. keep up the awesome work :)

Love the sneak peaks lol. and it sounds like a hard drive issue. If its more than 3 or 4 years old usually its time for a new, bigger, faster one. I hope its ssd not hdd but both work i suppose. I think biweekly sneak peaks is more logical while its fun being kept in the loop, it does seem time consuming to keep everyone posted that often, valuable time and effort that could be put towards achieving more greatness in the game, id think the big sneak peaks every 2 weeks would make it all worth the extra excitement, not to mention you wont get burned out nearly as easy ;b

Man, i can't wait to have more Liz content

PD.- 2 weeks sounds good

PD2.- take care bro!
